We pulled out
of Diamond Lake Thursday morning, 8/4, and have been making our way at a
leisurely pace up Hwy 395. We stayed one night at Clyde Holliday State Park
outside John Day, OR. Definitely an area we’d like to spend more time exploring. But with reservations at Glacier National Park we had to add it to our list of
places to come back to. We spent Friday night at Umatilla Marina RV Park
and then on to Spokane where the accommodations and company couldn’t have been
better.
For those of
you not familiar with RV terminology, “boondocking” refers to free camping, usually on public lands. “Moochdocking” is doing the same, but taking advantage
of a free spot with friends/family. In this
case, we descended upon my good (and recently retired!) friend, Rand Young and
his lovely wife, Erin. What an absolutely splendid time!

Moochdocking at its finest. |
I’ve known
Rand through work on juvenile justice initiatives for probably close to 15
years and have recently done my best to be a bad influence, encouraging him to join the
ranks of the gainfully unemployed as soon as possible. Rand and Erin have a gorgeous home with
acreage just outside Spokane and Rand had invited us to “stop by anytime”,
especially now that he is officially retired.

Feeling like a real VIP. :) |
Gotta be
careful with those open invitations! We
called from Diamond Lake, “Hey Rand, how’s it going? What’re doing
Saturday?” Rand graciously welcomed us
over and we can’t speak highly enough about their hospitality. It was a
fantastic evening, filled with good food, great conversation and shared interests. From the
welcome sign at the end of the driveway, to the delicious BBQ salmon dinner, to
the yummy breakfast of homemade granola and muffins – all I can say is, Wow!
Thank you so
much, we hope to see you again in a year!

Thanks Rand & Erin! |
So glad you got to meet up with Rand--how fun! I hope he is enjoying his new retirement.
ReplyDeleteI think Rand will be a fast learner. :) He & Erin have a beautiful place and are self-proclaimed homebodies. We did our best to convince him that the national parks are worth a visit.
