Beaver Pond Loop Trail – a warm up hike

After spending Monday on the road, we opted for a short hike near our campground to stretch our legs and get the kinks out. We’re planning for a longer hike tomorrow and I have a brand new pair of Merrell hiking boots that really need to be broken in.

We chose Beaver Pond Loop Trail in honor of Callie who hated covering the same ground twice. :)  It was an easy 3.6-mile walk starting along St. Mary Lake then going across meadows with a view of the “tree skeletons” left over from a 2006 fire, through an old growth conifer forest, past the beaver pond, and ending at a historical 1913 ranger station. A nice start to our visit.

Even the burn scars have an interesting beauty,

To get a smile, instead of "say cheese", I tell him to "say retirement"!
